Defibrillator Training

Socrates joined the Over 35 boys to take them through the workings of the defibrillator. The session was highly informative and thoroughly worthwhile. The key points to come out of the session were:

1. The defibrillator will guide us through a series of steps, to initiate the machine.

2. The machine will monitor the heart and guide the user through the necessary steps depending on how the heart is responding.

3. The machine will run through a cycle of applying a shock followed by a 2 minute sequence of CPR

We also learnt that a defibrillator will increase the chances of survival for someone in cardiac arrest from less than 2% using CPR alone to over 70%.

The attached image shows where to apply the pads to the patient.
